Diwali 2018: 10 Films Which Clashed At The Box-Office
Box-office clashes in Diwali have become quite the norm over the last two decades. Big festival, big money- that's what every filmmaker feels. Luckily, this year, the audiences will not be spoilt for choice and have only the Amitabh Bachchan-Aamir Khan-Katrina Kaif-Fatima Sana Shaikh starrer Thugs Of Hindostan. This is one of the rare occasions when we have  a single film hitting theatres during this time.

However, many a times, big films have clashed at the ticket windows and made life difficult for cinegoers as they had to choose which one to watch first or which one to not watch. Often they went into a quandary and watched neither! Is it wise to release films during Diwali? While some might say yes, there is a school of thought that many people do not venture out from their dens and love to pray and party at home instead. Anyway, here is a compilation of some of the big clashes:

Mohabbatein-Mission Kashmir (2000)

Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan collided with Hrithik Roshan and Sanjay Dutt at the box-office. There was big hype about both films and people were expecting a lot from them. While Mohabbatein set the cash registers ringing, Mission Kashmir though a good film was not well received.

Veer Zaara-Aitraaz-Mughal-E-Azam-Naach (2004)

Dilip Kumar's Mughal-E-Azam was releasing in colour but didn't have a lot of money at stake- hence, it turned out to be profitable. SRK's Veer Zaara rocked at the ticket windows as fans poured in from every nook and corner to watch it. Akshay's Aitraaz turned out to be a sleeper hit. Ramu's Naach was a non-starter.

Garam Masala- Kyon Ki- Shaadi No. 1 (2005)

David Dhawan's Shaadi No. 1 failed to live up to expectations. Salman's Kyon Ki, although loved by the critics, didn't manage to draw the audiences to theatres either. Akki and John won this battle with Garam Masala, courtesy their comic timing.

Golmaal Returns-Fashion (2008)

Rohit Shetty came back with the sequel to his super hit Golmaal (2006) and this Ajay Devgn starrer did not create too much euphoria unlike the first, and the prime reason for it was the stupendous performances by Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut in Fashion which became the talk-of-the-town. The Madhur Bhandarkar hard-hitting film was a box-office hit and the two actresses even won National Film Awards for the same.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil-Shivaay (2016)

Karan Johar's Ranbir Kapoor-Anushka Sharma starrer coming-of-age drama created a huge furore just before the release owing to Fawad Khan's presence. However, giving the film tough competition was Ajay Devgn's directorial venture Shivaay. But Ae Dil Hai Mushkil went on to garner good collections, while Shivaay did comparitively lesser business. However, both films won many awards- courtesy largely Ae Dil Hai Mushkil's fantastic music and Shivaay's superb visual effects.
